Glenn J. Viator, Sr., 71, of Westlake, passed into the loving arms of Jesus, on Sunday, February 14, with his loved ones at his side.
Glenn was a born in Lake Charles on February 6, 1950 and graduated from Marion High School in 1969.
Glenn joined the Lake Charles Fire Department on September 7, 1971 and rose through the ranks becoming an assistant chief. He was selected as the 1984-1985, “Outstanding Firefighter”, and the 1999 Supervisor of the Year. Always the teacher he attended the Texas A & M Fire School and returned as instructor where he earned “The Outstanding Instructor” award.
He retired from the Lake Charles Fire Department on February 01, 2005 after 33 ½ years of service.
Glenn was an active member of St. John Bosco Catholic Church, an A.C.T.S. member, and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #5755.
He was a devout family man and a friend to all. He loved his family, friends, and grandchildren and loved their fellowships and family cookouts.
Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, Sulie and Eula Derouen Viator, a brother, Ted Viator, and a brother-in-law, Anthony Boone.
He leaves to honor and cherish his beautiful, loving memory, his wife of 49 years, Valda VanNorman Viator of Westlake, a son, Glenn “John” Viator, Jr. (Jessica) of Longville, a daughter, Brandi Clausen (Jamie) of Moss Bluff; two sisters, Suzette Boone and Carolyn Boone (Kenneth); two brothers, Gary and Troy Viator; brothers-in-law, Jim VanNorman (Bobbie) and John Howard VanNorman and a sister-in-law, Beverly Ryall (Paul).
He is also survived by his grandchildren who, affectionately called him “Papa”, Brandon Allen Clausen, Jenna Marie Clausen, Kammi Lemoine, Jonnie Gayle Viator, and Kodi Anne Marie Viator.
A mass of Christian Burial for Glenn will be at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, February 23, at St. John Bosco Catholic Church. The Reverend Father, Jenesh Joseph and The Reverend Deacon Fred Reed will officiate. Burial will be in Consolata Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Monday, February 22, 2021 at Johnson Funeral Home in Moss Bluff. A rosary will be recited at 6:30 PM in the funeral home. Visitation at the church on Tuesday will be from 9:00 AM until time of services.
The family would like to recognize with extreme appreciation the doctors and compassionate, dedicated nurses on the Hospice and Oncology floor of Lake Charles Memorial Hospital.
