Glenn Joseph Rogers

Glenn Joseph Rogers, 75, of Lake Charles, LA died on Tuesday, March 8, 2011 in a local care facility.


Mr. Rogers was born April 22, 1935 in Buffalo, NY to Joseph A. and Marie Younkin Rogers. The family moved to Akron, OH in 1944 and Glenn grew up there attending Fairlawn Elementary School and Buchtel High School. He attended Tulsa University and received a BS degree in Chemical Engineering. Mr. Rogers was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity.


Retiring in 1998, he worked for thirty-nine years for PPG Industries, starting out at the Columbia Southern Plant in Barberton, OH. He also worked in Pittsburgh, PA and Lake Charles, LA. Glenn has lived in Akron, OH, Upper St. Clair, PA, Anaheim, CA, and finally in Lake Charles, LA where he has lived for the past thirty-three years. Mr. Rogers was a member of St. Luke-Simpson United Methodist Church, the Lake Area Runners, and EAA Experimental Aircraft Association. He enjoyed running, skiing, golfing, flying, singing, and building and flying airplanes.


Mr. Rogers is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Phyllis Thayer Rogers; daughters, Carol Rogers Breglio and husband James of Colorado Springs, CO and Julie Rogers Bell and partner Louis Guidry of Mandeville, LA; brother, Calvin Y. Rogers and wife Helen of Sacramento, CA; mother-in-law, Virginia Thayer of Lake Charles; and grandchildren, Jack Bell, Dylan Breglio, and Anthony Breglio.


He was preceded in death by his son, Capt. Glenn J. "Skip" Rogers, Jr., and his parents.


His memorial service will be at 3:00 PM on Sunday, March 20, 2011 at St. Luke Simpson United Methodist Church. Reverend Henry Bowdon will officiate. Visitation will be at the church from 1:00 PM until the start of the service. He was cremated under the direction of Johnson funeral Home.
