Gloria Ann Lecompte Johnson

Gloria LeCompte Johnson, 67 passed away on Friday, September 6 at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital as a result of a massive heart attack on Tuesday, September 3 at her residence.

Gloria was born on October 20, 1945 in Mallet, Louisiana to the late Adam and Ora (LaCour) LeCompte. She received Christ in her life at an early age and was originally a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Mallet, LA and then became a member of Immaculate Heart Catholic Church in Lake Charles, LA. She was formally united in marriage to Herbert J. Johnson for 38 years. She was an employee of Gold Rings in the 60s and 70s, a mother, a homemaker, the family historian, and worked occasionally for the Register of Voters as an election worker. Gloria was an excellent cook and enjoyed spending time with her former sister-in-law, Joycelyn Orsot LeCompte, her friend Debra Chavis Daniel, her nieces, Tricia LeCompte, Germaine LeCompte-Brown, and Joycelyn Boo LeCompte and her daughter, Claudia Johnson Carroll. Gloria also loved to watch daytime soap operas, New Orleans Saints football, and listening and dancing to zydeco music.

Gloria leaves to mourn her passing, yet cherishing precious memories: her former husband, Herbert J. Johnson of Lake Charles, LA; her daughter, Claudia (Michael Sr.) Carroll of Lake Charles, LA; one sister, Marcella Tezeno of Long Beach, CA; two brothers, Linton (Mary) LeCompte of Lake Charles and Adam (Audrey) LeCompte of Crosby TX; four step grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, Adam and Ora LeCompte; six brothers, Welton, Delton, Adam, George, Wilfred, and Melvin; three sisters, Frances, Lucille, and Alphonsine; two nephews, Allen Peanut Tezeno Jr. and Scott Anthony LeCompte.

Gloria was a blessed woman who was dedicated to her family, especially to her daughter. She expressed and demonstrated unconditional love. We were truly blessed to have her in our lives.

Visitation will from 9-11, Saturday, September 14, 2013 at Johnson Funeral Home at 4321 Lake Street in Lake Charles. Funeral Services will commence at noon at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church at 2031 Opelousas St. Burial will be at Consolata Cemetery located at 2300 Country Club Rd.
