Gloria Nell Guidry Martin, 79, of Lake Charles passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2014 in a Houston hospital. Mrs. Martin was born in Kaplan, LA and has lived most of her life in Lake Charles. She worked forty-eight years as a nurse, truly a calling for her, as she found great importance and comfort in caring for her patients. Forty-two years of her Nursing career was spent with her extended family working at W. O. Moss Regional Hospital. She enjoyed reading and was a great cook, making sure all of her grandchildren were always well fed. Mrs. Martin's first love was her family, as she took great pride in her family, devoting her life and love to her children and grandchildren. She was a member of St. Margaret Catholic Church where she formerly served as a Lay Minister and Catholic Daughter. Mrs. Martin will be most remembered as an admirable woman of faith and prayer, whom always looked to find good in others, encouraging her family to do the same. She leaves to cherish her memory, three daughters, Susan Martin Spencer and husband Nathan of Sulphur; Patti L. Martin of Lake Charles and Kelli Martin Hines of Sulphur; seven grandchildren, Aaron, Adam and Ben Spencer, Mary Beth Martin, Daylon and Bailee Hines and Skylin Martin; one brother, Simon "Butch" Guidry, Jr. of Moss Bluff and two sisters, Shirley Shelton and Linda Guidry Gann of Lake Charles. She was preceded in death by her son, Richard "Rick" Martin and parents, Simon and Laurence Pellerin Guidry. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Sunday, March 16, 2014 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Father Bill Miller will officiate. Interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation Saturday will be from 2:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a scripture service and rosary beginning at 6:00 PM. Visitation Sunday will be from 10:00 AM until the time of service in the funeral home.
