Loving Mother and Grandmother Gloria V. Conner passed away on July 9, 2014 at her residence. Gloria was born in Metairie, LA on September 12, 1930. She attended Metairie High School and graduated 3rd in her class. While working on receiving her Secondary Education Degree from McNeese State University, she served as Secretary of the Spanish Club. In 1978, she graduated from McNeese with a degree in Spanish Education. After graduating, Gloria taught Spanish at Saint Louis High School for several years. She was a member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Church. She and her late husband Mike were voted Family of the Year for the Parish in 1983. She was a 45 year member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Daughters Court #1785. On two separate occasions, she was elected to serve as Grand Regent of the Court and also Daughter of the Year twice. She was also a member of the Lake Charles Spanish Club and held several positions there. For over 25 years Gloria was a member of the Lake Charles Messiah Christmas Choir. Mike and Gloria are both charter members of the Krewe des Feteurs Mardi Gras Krewe (1985). An achievement the couple was thoroughly proud of. She also served the Krewe for many years as Head of the Phone Committee and twice as Queen. First as Queen Joile V in 1989 with husband Mike serving as King Beau V, and second as Queen Jolie XXV with her oldest son Bobby serving as King Beau XXV. Gloria was the President and Secretary of Mike's company: Southwest Louisiana Publications. She is preceded in death by her husband, Mike; Mother and Father, Emilia and Francisco Villaneuva, Both of Oviedo, Spain; and infant son, Frankie. She is survived by three sons: Robert "Bobby" Conner and Michael "Mickey" Conner, both of Lake Charles; and Stephen "Steve" Conner of Houston; and two grandsons: Michael Ryan Conner and Shawn Patrick Conner, both of Lake Charles. The family would like to thank Doctors David Dobbins and Michael Seep and the staff of Family Medical Center for their years of caring and help to our loving Mother and Grandmother. Also thanks to Southern Home Health and Southern Hospice for all their support and care. Visitation will be Monday, July 14, 2014, at Johnson Funeral Home from 4 PM to 9 PM with a Rosary being provided by O.L.Q.H. Catholic Daughters Court #1785 at 6 PM. Visitation will resume Tuesday, July 15, 2014, from 10 AM until time of service. Funeral service will be at 2 PM. Service will be conducted by Father Herbert May. Entombment will be at Consolata Cemetery.
