Gordon R. Duhon

Gordon Ray Duhon, 94, of Lake Charles, passed away on Friday June 16, 2023 at the Southwest Louisiana War Veteran’s Home in Jennings.

Gordon was a descendent of an early pioneer family of Lake Charles. His great-grandfather was Cyprien Duhon, of which Prien Lake and Prien Lake Road was named after. He was also a descendent of Issaac W. Lyons and Leitha Ann Vincent, early settlers of the Sulphur area. He was born in Sulphur to Joseph Vernon and Hilma Lyons Duhon and raised in Lake Charles. After graduating from LaGrange High School and McNeese State College, Gordon honorably and faithfully served our country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. Upon returning home to Lake Charles, he began a career at Cities Service Refinery, where retired from the research and development department. Following his retirement, he opened and operated D & P Appliance Repair, G & G Laundry Services and Clean-A-Matic Washateria. He was a member of Lake Charles First Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School and served as an usher. He was an avid supporter of the McNeese Cowboy Club since 1954 and a member of the W.B. Williamson American Legion Post #1.

Preceding Gordon in death are his parents, beloved wife, Vera Prater Duhon; brother, Marvin Duhon; and sister, Helen Sandifer. Those left to honor and cherish his memories are sons, Brett Duhon and wife Margaret, Singer, LA and Mark Duhon and wife Laura, San Marcos, TX; grandchildren, Daniel Duhon and wife Jordan, Aaron Duhon, Stephen Duhon, Shelise Duhon, Heather Robison and Beau Duhon; great grandchildren: Ava, Eleanor, Logan, Gage and Dylan; four great great grandchildren; sister, Lucille Gardner and Husband Conrad, Harrison, Arkansas as well and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family of the heart.

Visitation will be on Tuesday June 20, 2023 at Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM with the Rev. Johnny Dammon officiating and United States Navy Honors being observed. Burial will be alongside his wife in Perkins Cemetery
