Grace Abshire

Grace Marie Thibodeaux Abshire, 93, of Lake Charles, LA, died at 10:45 PM on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 in a Baton Rouge hospital.

Mrs. Abshire was born January 31, 1927 in Crowley, LA, where she graduated from high school, and has lived in Lake Charles since 1968.  She was a past member of Christ the King Catholic Church and a current member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church.  “Mimi”, as she was called by all who loved her, enjoyed crocheting and working word puzzles, and will always be remembered for her happy, bubbly personality.

Mrs. Abshire is survived by her sons, Phillip Abshire, Jr. and wife Maureen of Lake Charles and Brian Abshire and wife Nina of Iowa; grandchildren, Alicia Williams and husband Luke, Nicole Posch and husband Brad, Phillip Abshire, III and wife Aimee, Sabrina Racca and husband Justin, Christopher Abshire and wife Leighann, and Joshua Abshire; twenty-two great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband of seventy years, Philip Abshire, Sr.; parents, Hebrard and Josephine Thibodeaux; infant daughter, Catherine Suzette; granddaughter, Helen Rachelle Abshire-Babin; and ten brothers and sisters.

Her funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, January 4, 2021 at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.  *Please note masks will be required for attendees.*  Monsignor Daniel Torres will officiate.  Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens.  Visitation will be at Lake City Baptist Church, 3940 Holly Hill Road, Lake Charles on Sunday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a rosary at 6:00 PM.  Visitation will continue on Monday from 9:00 AM until the start of the service at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church.
