Grady Leon Ward, 94, left this earth on April 22, 2014. His quiet strength and virtue are admired by all who knew him. He was born to Samuel Odus Ward and Myrtle Wilson Ward on November 29, 1919 in Gainesville, Texas. Following graduation from high school in Eldorado, Kansas, Mr. Ward moved to Gary, Indiana where he met the love of his life, Wanda Petross. They were married in Little Rock, Arkansas on December 3, 1942. Mr. Ward joined the Army Air Corp in 1941, serving his country as a B-29 mechanic during World War II. By the time of his discharge in November 1945, he had risen to the rank of Staff Sergeant. After the war, the family moved to Maplewood, where they raised four daughters. Mr. Ward worked for Cities Service Company for 34 years, retiring in 1980. Mr. Ward was a faithful member of Maplewood Church of Christ for over 60 years; and from 2002 served the Lord at Enterprise Boulevard Church of Christ in Lake Charles. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Wanda, his daughter and son-in-law Sandra and Jim (Rad) Little, four brothers and one sister. He is survived by his daughters Linda Moorhead (John), Debbie Anderson (Jimmy), and Rebecca Ward (Ben Kaczmarek), eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, three brothers and one sister. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, April 25, 2014 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Jason Clark, minister of Enterprise Boulevard Church of Christ will officiate. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Garden Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Thursday from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM and will continue on Friday from 9:00 AM until the start of the service.
