Dr. Grady M. Mayeaux, Sr.,75, passed away peacefully at his residence on Wednesday, April 15, 2020.
He was born on October 11, 1944 in Lecompte, Louisiana to Lester and Wardie Carroll Mayeaux. He served his country honorably in the United States Army and Louisiana National Guard for 13 years, and left his military career as a Master Sergeant. He was a Christian evangelist and educator who received a calling from God at an early age to pursue his passion in ministry. He was an active member of the Masonic lodge, Philologia #178, Conyers, Ga. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, time with family as well as witnessing to everyone he met about his passion for the Lord.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Annette Johnson Mayeaux; children, Grady “Buba” Mayeaux, Jr. (Tracy) and Russell Mayeaux; grandchildren, Mason, Hannah, Mia, Marlie, Haley, Ryan and Riley; six brothers and sisters; numerous nieces and nephews; and best friend, Arthur Tranakos.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, René Walter; and his parents.
Dr. Grady’s life was full of new experiences. In the 1960s, he was one of the first meat inspectors hired in the state of Louisiana. He then went on to work in the oilfield industry in the 1980s, and with his entrepreneurial spirit, started his own business and became very successful, in addition to becoming a leading mentor in his field, later being labeled as the “Chemical Man.” It wasn’t until later in his life, he felt God’s calling once again to dedicate his life in the ministry. At the age of 45, he enrolled in Luther Rice Seminary and received his Doctorate of Philosophy in Christian Education. With that achievement, he incorporated his love for the Lord into his everyday life, sharing God’s word with those he encountered.
Although Grady worked in many fields of practice, his greatest joy in life was his wife and children. He would often say his full-time career is “being a dad” and devoted many years in the rodeo arena with his family. He wanted nothing more than to give his children the best opportunities to be successful, and that he did.
When grandchildren came, he was thereafter known as “Pops,” a name he deeply cherished. Pops entered Heaven surrounded by his family and dearest friends.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Cremation has been entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff.
