Gregory Alan Austin, 57, of Lake Charles and Las Vegas passed away at 6:50 PM on Saturday, January 23, 2021 in the comfort of his home in Las Vegas surrounded by his family.
Greg was born on September 22, 1963 in Illinois where he was raised and graduated from Tri City High School in Buffalo, Illinois. In 1990 he was asked to move to Hathaway, LA and assist with a business and later opened and operated, along with his wife and business partner, “Sigma Healthcare of Jennings.” He absolutely adored and respected his staff that worked for him. Greg had a vision of living in Las Vegas when he retired that led him to purchase a home in Las Vegas 12 years ago which he and his wife were able to enjoy. They would travel from Las Vegas to Louisiana and to Illinois yearly to visit family and friends. Greg was a member of St. Theodore Catholic Church in Moss Bluff and was also involved in the church committee in Hathaway.
He was also involved in his community and served as President of the Little Dribblers in Hathaway and participated in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program in his earlier years. Greg sold software that helped and assisted the autistic department at McNeese State University. He was an excellent tournament bowler and belonged to the National Bowling Association. Greg also enjoyed camping, NASCAR racing, and most of all cherished time spent with family and friends.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 29 years, Cynthia Jolie Austin, of Lake Charles and Las Vegas; daughter, Jessica Doescher (Fiance, Paul Romero) of Las Vegas; Granddaughter, Balie Treme and her father, Robert Treme of Elton; parents, Henrietta and Raymond Austin, Sr. of Springfield, IL; brother, Raymond Austin, Jr. (Helen) of Dawson, IL; sister, Genny Hood (William) of Mechanicsburg, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Tracie Doescher Fontenot.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Theodore Catholic Church on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at 11 a.m. Monsignor Charles Dubois will officiate. Burial will follow the service in Highland Memory Gardens under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff. Visitation will be held at Johnson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff on Monday, February 1, 2021 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. with a rosary being recited at 6 p.m. Visitation will continue at the funeral home Tuesday from 9 a.m. until 10:15 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to McNeese Autism Program.
