Gregory Benavidez

Gregory Monico Charles Benavidez, 63, passed away on August 19, 2017.

Mr. Benavidez was a Lake Charles Wildcat of the 1972 graduating class. Greg’s love of music led him to become a manager at Musicland. He then spent over thirty years sharing his love of wine with the city of Lake Charles. In his free time he loved to golf with his son and friends and was a huge fan of the Dallas Cowboys. Greg was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. His truest joy was being a “GG” to his grandchildren and stayed very involved in their lives.

He leaves behind his wife, Vickie Hebert Benavidez; daughter, Monica Leigh Van Norman and husband John; son, Gregory Michael Benavidez; three grandchildren, Brooklyn Reese, Mackenzie Jayde, and Rylee Morgan; his mother, Dora Van Vollenhoven Benavidez; four brothers, Frank, George, Joseph, and Edward Benavidez; three sisters, Elzy Baggett and husband Al, Yolanda Benavidez, and Susana Benavidez; brother-in-law, Ronney Leger and wife Debi; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father Dr. Gregory Dean Benavidez, and sister, Janie Benavidez.

A Burial of Christian Mass will be held at 11AM on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at St. Margaret Catholic Church in Lake Charles. Father Marcus Johnson will officiate. Burial will follow at Prien Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be at 6PM to 8PM at Johnson Funeral Home on Monday, August 21. Visitation will continue at 9AM to 10:30AM Tuesday morning at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that a donation be made in Mr. Benavidez’s memory to St. Margaret Catholic School.
