Gwendolyn Evelle LeBlanc, 73, of Lake Charles passed away at 6:12 PM Thursday, January 27, 2011 in a local hospital.
Mrs. LeBlanc was born in Oakdale, attended school in Lafayette, and then moved to Lake Charles where she met and married the love of her life. Mrs. LeBlanc was active in church and was the head of the Ladies Alter Society at St. Henry's for many years and currently attended Our Lady Queen of Heaven. She retired from Credeaur Distributing Company and most recently helped out at Big Daddy's Sports Grill.
Mrs. LeBlanc loved to cook and bake. She was known for her pralines, fruit cakes, and pear relish. She loved to cook for her family at holidays and bake cakes for birthdays. As a loving mother and wife, she always made her plate last. She was always there to offer words of wisdom and food for comfort. Known as "Momma" to everybody, she will be greatly missed as a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend.
Mrs. LeBlanc was preceded in death by her parents Johnny and Edna Johnson, sister, Carolyn Dean, and granddaughter Megan Elizabeth. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, E.C. (Carol) LeBlanc; son, Joe LeBlanc and his wife Kathy of Lake Charles; son, Jerry LeBlanc and his wife Tammy of Lake Charles; Daughter Jacki Brenner and her husband Russell of Katy, TX.; and daughter, Judy LeBlanc of Lake Charles; Grandsons Jamy LeBlanc and his wife Sabrina of Lake Charles, Joe LeBlanc and his wife Leslie of Shreveport; grand-daughters Lyndsey, Jessaka, and Erin Leblanc of Lake Charles and Reese Brenner from Katy. She had four great grandchildren: Coby, Kelsey, Jadien, and Jaecy. She is also survived by her sisters Linda Hill and her husband Caleb of Bossier, Cloteal Wray and her husband Dale of Bossier and several nieces and nephews.
Her Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 AM, Monday, January 31, 2011 at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. Reverend T. L. Herlong will officiate. Burial will be in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin, Sunday, from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a rosary at 5:00 PM followed by a scripture service at 6:00 PM, and continue from 8:30 AM until 9:30 AM, Monday, at the funeral home.
