Gwendolyn Ruth Taylor

Gwendolyn Ruth Taylor was the oldest of three children born to Tonice and Mavie LaFleur. She was born March 2, 1940 in Basile, LA until she was eight years old when her family relocated to Lake Charles.

She was raised with strong Christian values and was a member of St. Margaret’s Catholic Church. It was during a Christmas Parade celebration where she would meet Douglas Taylor while he was on leave from the U.S. Army. They exchanged vows shortly after and together would welcome four children, Jeffery, Byron, Ross, and Matthew.

Following his military career, he began working for Lake Charles Police Department while she was a homemaker and mother. She led them by faith and example, she was an excellent seamstress, cook, and crocheting. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, crafting, and music.

Her children recount her best qualities being her strong faith, patience, the friendship she brought to many. She was active in the “Come Lord Jesus” church group and volunteered her time with Families Anonymous, where she led meetings and sponsored those in need.

In her later years, although she battled health problems, she never faltered with her faith, even in the nursing home she was devout in her faith and began attending Mass held at Villa Maria.

She was welcomed into Heaven on Thursday, October 13, 2022, by her beloved husband Douglas Taylor; two grandsons, Brennen Taylor and Matthew Ivan Taylor; her parents; and a brother, Collins Dwayne LaFleur.

Those left to cherish her memory and perfect her Grandmi’ Eyes: four sons, Jeffery Taylor, Byron Taylor, Ross Taylor, and Matthew Taylor; grandchildren, Joshua, Jordan, Jessica, Stacy, Alana, Carolanne, Brandon, Amanda, Allison, and Emily; eight great grandchildren; a brother, Farnell (Dawn) LaFleur.

The family will welcome friends in the chapel of Johnson Funeral Home Sunday, October 16, 2022, beginning at 4pm to 8pm with a Rosary to be prayed at 6pm. Visitation to resume Monday, October 17, 2022, from 12:30pm to 1:30pm. Funeral Mass celebrated by Father Levi Thompson & co-celebrated by Father Kevin Badeaux of Beaumont Diocese will be held at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Church beginning at 2pm with burial to follow at Consolata Cemetery.
