Gwendolyn Spell Veazey, 89, of Lake Charles, LA, passed away at 9:10 AM on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 in a local hospital.
Mrs. Veazey was born May 29, 1929 in Judice, LA and raised in Scott, LA, where she graduated as Salutatorian from Scott High School. She attended SLI, Southwest Louisiana Institute. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Cathedral Church and attended St. Margaret Catholic Church. She loved visiting with family and friends and never met a stranger.
Mrs. Veazey is survived by her children, Sherry Rogers of Holmwood, LA, Kent Veazey of Lake Charles, John Veazey and wife Tonya of Prairieville, LA, Paul Veazey Jr. and wife Brenda of Lake Charles, Marianne Ackoury and husband Nolan of Moss Bluff, and Jacquelyn Velasco and husband Ernie of Shreveport, LA; brothers, Paul Oran Spell and James Wincey Spell and wife Vienna; sister, Dolores Spell Pitt; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.
She was preceded in death by her husband and love of her life, Paul Leonard Veazey, Sr.; parents, Emmett and Marie Eulalie Spell; son-in-law, Walter Rogers; sister-in-law, Thelma Spell; brother-in-law, Neil Pitt; and her sister’s partner, Joe Bourque.
Her funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, November 16, 2018 at St. Margaret Catholic Church. Father Sam Orsot will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home on Thursday from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a rosary at 6:00 PM and will continue on Friday at the funeral home from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM.
