Haila E. Handley Traske

Haila Esther Handley Traske, 66, of Lake Charles entered into rest, Friday, September 23, 2011 from the comfort of her daughter's home.

Mrs. Traske was born in Crowley, LA and has lived most of her life in Lake Charles. She was a graduate of Lake Charles High School where she was a Kiltie and attended Northwestern State University. Mrs. Traske worked most of her life in the Insurance and Real Estate Industry. She was formerly the Owner and Operator of Handley Traske Insurance. She took great pride in being part of the oldest, successful Insurance Company in Lake Charles and that today, it currently remains in operation by her daughter.

Mrs. Traske enjoyed the arts and music, spinning and weaving, reading, flower gardening, camping, bird watching and her dogs, nature at its best. She was a member of Spinners and Weavers of Imperial Calcasieu and past member of Diggers and Weeders Garden Club.

She will be most remembered for her sense of humor and her laughter.

She leaves to cherish her memory, one son, Vince Traske and wife Nancy and one daughter, Tonya Traske, both of Lake Charles; four grandchildren, Amanda Traske, Corey Chauvin, Thomas Traske, U.S. Navy and Sarah Traske, all of Lake Charles; one great- grandchild, Gavin Chauvin of Lake Charles and two brothers, Richard F. Handley and wife Mary of Plano, TX and Douglas Handley and wife Diana of Lake Charles.

She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of twenty-four years, Thomas Edward Traske; parents, Curtis Merrill and Esther Handley and two brothers, Curtis M. Handley, Jr. and Bruce W. Handley.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Tuesday, September 27, 2011 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Chaplain Drew Fontenot will officiate. Visitation Monday will be from 5:00 PM until 10:00 PM. Visitation Tuesday will be from 10:00 AM until the time of service in the funeral home.
