Harold Dailey Cornett, 77, died Tuesday, November 15, 2016, in his residence.
Born to Charles Sherman and Edna Dailey Cornett in Effingham, Illinois, Mr. Cornett was a graduate of Bell City High School and a 1969 graduate of McNeese State University. He loved the game of golf and was greenskeeper for Lake Charles Country Club and Mallard Cove Golf Course. Mr. Cornett portrayed Jean Lafitte in 1991 for the Lake Charles Buccaneers. He loved vacationing in the Caribbean Islands and was an avid McNeese Cowboy and New Orleans Saints football fan. He always enjoyed interacting with his nieces and nephews.
Harold was a complex man of widely varying interests. His greatest enjoyment came from spending long afternoons with a large group of friends at the farm or at the river. He enjoyed playing tennis and had a love of music ranging from classical to jazz and everything in between. Perhaps his greatest love of all was for animals, from the cows on the farm he grew up on to all the dogs in his neighborhood, but most of all, for his beloved cat “Silly Girl.” He never stopped even when physical challenges limited what he could do.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of fifty-one years, Delores Youngblood Cornett of Lake Charles; one sister, Martha Cornett Fuller and husband Johnny of Westlake; his sister-in-law, Sylvia Contine’ of Minden, Louisiana; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Charles S. Cornett, Jr.; one sister, Della Cornett Goff; and his beloved cat, “Silly Girl”.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 3 until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at Johnson Funeral Home. At Mr. Cornett’s request, cremation was entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Center, P. O. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101-9929.
