Dr. Harold G. F. Edwards died on February 12, 2015. Dr. Edwards as born in Lafayette, Louisiana on January 14, 1924, he moved to Opelousas, Louisiana and graduated from the Academy of the Immaculate Conception in 1939. He then entered into the V12 program of the Army, the infantry school at Fort Benning, Georgia. Then assigned to the 8th division in Europe, he participated in the Battle of the Hurtgen Forest and during the Battle of the Bulge he was captured by the Germans and sent to the infamous M Stamlager 1XB Camp in Bad Orb, Germany. After liberation by Patton's army he was sent to Le'Harve, France and returned home on the SS Argentina. Following the end of the war in Europe he helped establish army recruiting officers throughout the State of Mississippi. Upon discharge from the army, he attended Louisiana State University with a degree in Chemistry. He moved to Lake Charles and was employed as a chemist for Cities Service Refinery. In 1949, he married Juanita Mallet and, in 1951, son Philip David was born. In 1959, he attended McNeese State University then transferred to the Loyola School of Medicine where he practiced dentistry in Lake Charles and Sulphur until his retirement. He was an active member of the Southwest District Dental Society, Lake Charles Dental Society, the Louisiana Dental Association, where he held the position of Vice President, and the American Dental Association. He served on the Board of Directors of First Federal Bank of Louisiana for 25 years. He was also a chairman of the Lake Charles Memorial Hospital Service District and the Pioneer Club. He was also a member of the Holy Order of the Sepalchor and was a President of the Serra Club. He was proceeded in death by his mother, Inez Perrault, father, Dr. Harold G.F. Edwards, brother, Francis R. Edwards; sisters, Dorothy M. Edwards and Gladys M. Edwards; and half-brother C. J. Edwards. He is survived by his wife Juanita M. Edwards, son, Philip D. Edwards (Lynn Edwards); grandchildren, Alecia, Elizabeth, and Philip (Kayla); great-grandchildren, Courtney Leigh, Gracie Annabelle, and Waylon David; nephews, Allen Morris Edwards (Renee) and David F. Edwards (Catherine). Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home Sunday February 15, 2015 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a rosary to be recited at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue at the funeral home from 9:00 AM to 9:30 AM on Monday, February 16, with a Mass of Christian Burial to be observed at 10:00 AM at St. Margaret Catholic Church. Msgr. Charles Mallet and Rev. Bill Miller will serve as celebrants. Burial will be at Lacassine Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Donations can be made to St. Louis Catholic High School.
