Harold Grant Carrington

Harold Grant Carrington, 78, of Lake Charles, LA died at 2:01 PM on Monday, April 15, 2013 in a local hospital.


Mr. Carrington was born April 29, 1934 in Quantico, VA and attended Bluefield State College in Bluefield WV. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force for four years and then worked for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) for five years. He retired from the Navy Federal Credit Union Headquarters in Vienna, VA and has lived in Lake Charles for the past twenty years. Mr. Carrington was a longtime member of Trinity Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday school for many years, was a member of the Senior Adult Choir, and was an active member of his own Sunday school class. He was a past member of the Masons and enjoyed art, working in the yard, and reading his Bible daily. He also loved spending time with his family.


Mr. Carrington is survived by his loving wife of fifty-five years, Barbara Ann Shoemake Carrington; daughters, Veronica Gardner and Sheila Gaskin and boyfriend Gary Wayne Meek, all of Lake Charles; sister, Frances Correll Osakowicz of Maryland; brother, Franklin Newton Carrington of Virginia; and grandchildren, Brandon Lee Comer, Kain Michael Gardner and Lauren Elizabeth Gaskin, all of Lake Charles.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Newton Everett Carrington and Nellie Marie Decatur Carrington; brother, Aubrey Carrington; and sister, Mary Ann Barber.


His funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Friday, April 19, 2013 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Reverends Steve James and Randy Monroe will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM and continue on Friday from 8:00 AM until the start of the service.
