Harold Joseph Lavergne

October 3, 1943 — February 7, 2021

Harold Joseph Lavergne, 77 of Lake Charles was called Home on Sunday, February 7, 2021.

He was one of eight children born to Ulysse and Marie Richard Lavergne on October 3, 1943 in Church Point, LA.

At age nine his family made Lake Charles their home, where he grew up, attending LaGrange High School, Class of 1961.

In 1966 he and Loretta exchanged vows, then after 10 months of marriage he was drafted into the United States Army during the Vietnam War, serving just under two years, receiving an honorable discharge. Upon returning home he worked at Weingarten Grocery store, then Market Basket until his retirement.

Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, recounting stories of his youth and things he did with his siblings. You could find him tending to his vegetable garden, watching NASCAR, or rooting on his New Orleans Saints and LSU Tigers. He also enjoyed the luncheons with his LaGrange Gator Classmates.

He was welcomed into Heaven by his parents; his son, Bradley Joseph Lavergne; his daughter, Stephanie Kay Lavergne; his three brothers, Leroy, Martin, and E.L. Lavergne and four sisters, Elizabeth Comeaux, Lovenia Quibodeaux, Nell Rose Winn, and Ora Royer.

Those left to cherish his memory is his wife of 54 years, Loretta; his daughter, Amy Lavergne; countless nieces, nephews, and extended family, as well as his favorite pet, his dog Doozer.

The family will welcome friends on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at University Baptist Church in Lake Charles beginning at 5pm to 8pm. A Rosary prayed at 6pm. A Mass of Christian Burial led by Father Levi Thompson begins at 10am, with burial to follow at Consolata Cemetery.
