Harvey Louis Broussard

Harvey L.(Bobbie) Broussard, age 86, died at Resthaven Nursing Home, Lake Charles, Louisiana on October 10, 2014, where he was a resident for 3 years. Born February 12, 1928 in New Orleans La, he graduated from New Iberia High School, New Iberia, Louisiana Class of 1944. After attending Louisiana State University, he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1946, serving with occupational troops in Sendei, Japan during World War II. On return to the states he attended USL of Lafayette, Louisiana focusing on business and accounting, preparing him for his future with the United Gas Company in New Iberia beginning in 1948. In that same year Harvey married Waldean (Dean) Broussard, also of New Iberia, where they started their family. In 1957, Harvey was offered a transfer to Bogalusa, Louisiana as Office Manager, then to St. Petersburg, Florida in 1966 in the position of Division Office Manager. In 1969, Harvey and his family were transferred to Lake Charles, LA to fill the position of District Office Manager at United Gas which became later Entex. Harvey was made President of the Entex Employees Credit Union from January 1979 through January 1988. He also received the Distinguished Service Award as President of the Credit Bureau of Lake Charles from 1977-1978. He retired in 1987 in New Iberia, LA as the Louisiana Division Administrative Manager. Being an active member of the VFW in New Iberia, he was also a member of the American Legion Post One of Lake Charles and other civic-related organizations. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Waldean (Dean) Broussard of New Iberia, Louisiana, four children, Ellen Broussard, David Broussard, Sr., Robert Broussard and Janine Falgoust, all of Lake Charles; grandchildren, David Broussard, Jr. of Baton Rouge, Jeremy Broussard and wife Leah of Lake Charles, and Carmelite Postulant, Sister Julia Falgoust of Nebraska; great-grandchildren, Riley and August; and his cousin Maxine Scharff Dammon of Slidell, Louisiana, with whom he spent most of his childhood. Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, Harold Louis Broussard and Esther LaGrange Broussard; and his brother Jerome Broussard and wife Betty. Harvey enjoyed life, family and friends. His interests included traveling, boating, hunting, fishing, camping and golfing. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, yet with great memories lingering forever in our hearts. We would like to extend a special thanks to friends, family, the doctors, nurses, and staff at Christus St. Patrick Hospital, the staff of Resthaven Nursing Home, and Brighton Bridge Hospice for their considerate and caring attendance during this difficult time. His funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church. Father Nathan Long will officiate. Burial will follow in Prien Memorial Park. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home on Monday from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a rosary at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Tuesday from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are welcome at the charity of one's choice.
