Hazel Gaspard Savant, 95, of Lake Charles died on Thursday, September 25, 2014 in a local care facility. Mrs. Savant was born on September 16, 1919 in Indian Bayou, LA and lived in Lake Charles since 1953. For 35 years she worked in shoe sales at Muller's Department Store. She was a member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. She enjoyed working in her yard and home, both were kept immaculate. Those left to cherish her memory are a sister-in-law, Ida Savant Ford of Lake Charles; two nieces, Dee Gaspard Stutes and her husband Phil of Duson and Barbara Gaspard Duhon of Lake Charles; two nephews, Wilfred Gaspard and Lawrence Gene Gaspard and wife Elaine Broussard Gaspard all of Rayne; and great nieces and nephews, Lee Demarest, Kevin Gaspard, Corey Gaspard, Richard Gaspard, Michelle Stutes Musso, Josette Stutes Zuklic, Paul Stutes, and Monica Stutes Drewey. She was preceded in death by her parents, Noela and Theodore Gaspard; husband, Rodney Savant; two brothers, Widly Gaspard and his wife Francis Meaux Gaspard, and Wilson Gaspard and his wife Nola Clement Gaspard; a sister, Virginia Haley and her husband Henry; and a great nephew, Shannon Gaspard. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, September 29, 2014 at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. The Rev. Matthew Cormier will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin on Sunday from 2:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a rosary being recited at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Monday in the funeral home from 8:00 AM until leaving for the church at 9:30 AM. The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to the staff at Landmark Nursing Home, Southern Hospice, and also to Brighten Bridge Hospice for their compassionate care given to Mrs. Savant.
