Hazel Marie Cormier

Hazel Marie Cormier, 83, of Lake Charles passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2018 in her residence.

Mrs. Cormier was born in Pine Island, LA, on December 14, 1934 to Alida and Valentine Mott, Sr. She attended LaGrange High School and spent two years studying at Sowela Technical Community College and graduated as an LPN. Mrs. Cormier spent many years taking care of her family and raising her children. She was very active in the Cajun French Music Association. She taught dance lessons, was chairman of the CFMA dance troop, and sang in the CFMA choir. She loved to dance and listen to Cajun French music, enjoyed cooking for everyone and loved drinking her coffee. She was an excellent seamstress and loved being a part of the “Crazy Quilters Club” that met once a month with her friends. She crocheted hats to donate to children at St. Jude Medical Hospital and spent many hours making quilts for her grandchildren and great grandchildren whom she adored.

Left to cherish Mrs. Cormier’s memory is her loving husband of 64 years, Lesa Cormier; children, Daniel Cormier and wife Judy of Lake Charles, David Cormier of Lake Charles, Charles Cormier and wife Karen of Ardmore, OK, and Brian Foreman and wife Denise of Lake Charles; grandchildren, Brian, Jacob, Eric, and Aimee; eight great grandchildren; siblings, Jean and Hilrae; half siblings, Wilma, Wilda, Margie, Stanford, Raymond, Dallas, and Randy; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Wilton, Clifford, Curley, Lee, Melva, and Viola; and half siblings, Bernadine and Valentine, Jr.

There will be a Funeral Mass for Mrs. Cormier at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at 9:30 AM. Father Nathan Long will officiate. Burial will be at Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home on Monday, February 26, 2018 from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a rosary being recited at 6:00 PM. Visitation will resume at Johnson Funeral Home on Tuesday morning at 8:00 AM until 9:00 AM.
