Hazel Martin Lavern

December 29, 1923 — September 6, 2012

Hazel Martin LaVern, 88, of Lake Charles passed away Thursday, September 06, 2012 in a local hospital.


Mrs. LaVern was born in Sulphur and lived most of her life in Lake Charles. She was a graduate of Sulphur High School. She worked fifteen of her younger years as a head cashier for Sears and Roebuck. Mrs. LaVern enjoyed many years of bowling in a league with Sears. She also enjoyed golfing and gardening. She was a member of the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception.


Mrs. LaVern took great pride in her family and in following, along with her children, her husband's career in the Oil Field, giving them the opportunity to live throughout the world. She will be most remembered for her organizational skills.


She leaves to cherish her memory, one son, John LaVern and wife Robbie of Lake Charles; one daughter, Geneva LaVern of Houston, TX; one grandson, David LaVern and wife Kim of Houston, TX; three great-grandchildren, Caroline, Elise and Camille LaVern of Houston, TX and one sister, Lolita LeBus of Amarillo, TX.


She was preceded by her husband of fifty-six years, Monroe LaVern; her parents, Ignace and Sisley Tholozan Martin; six sisters, Geneva Martin, Pearle Baque, Gladys Rose, Grace O'Connell, Eula Hall and Annie Pick Stone and three brothers, Basile, Will and Ignace Martin, Jr.


Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Sunday, September 09, 2012 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Monsignor Charles Dubois will officiate. Interment will follow in Mimosa Pines South Cemetery. Visitation Sunday will be from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM in the funeral home.


In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Cathedral of Immaculate Conception, 935 Bilbo Street, Lake Charles, LA 70601.
