Helen Octavia Reeves Schlaud

Helen Octavia Reeves Schlaud, 64, of Lake Charles died at 2:00 AM on Friday, March 18, 2011 in her residence.


Mrs. Schlaud was born on January 21, 1947 in Lake Charles where she lived all of her life. Helen worked most of her life in the food and beverage industry. She enjoyed serving her guests and made many friends over the years. Helen was a member of the Laborers Local #207. She attended The First Apostolic Church of Moss Bluff.


Helen enjoyed outdoor activities, especially fishing, crabbing, and shrimping. She had a passion for wrestling.


Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Melissa LaComb; a grandson, Johnathon Ross LaComb; a great grandson, Colten Ross LaComb; and her first husband as well as her lifelong companion and friend, Chester Vassos all of Lake Charles; a brother, Tommy and wife Eleanor Reeves of New Braunfels, TX; four sisters, Nelda and husband Raymond Prime of Austin, TX, Mary Filipski of Ragley, LA, Dianna and husband Earl White of Dale, TX, and Donita (Dee) Abate of Lumberton, TX; and a host of nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her beloved dog, Fancy Lyn.


She was preceded in death by her father, Ernest Reeves; her mother, Lucy Reeves; and a brother, M.D. Reeves.


Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 21, 2011 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. James Rider will officiate. Burial will be in Creel Cemetery in Bel, LA. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2:00 PM until 9:00 PM and will continue on Monday from 8:00 AM until time of services.
