Herman I. Ellender, Jr, or as his family and friends referred to him as Junior, 78, passed away Sunday, December 15,2024, at the Veterans Home in Jennings. After receiving an Honorable Discharge from the Army, he attended McNeese State University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agronomy. He worked for the Louisiana Department of Agriculture in Jena, Louisiana, eventually leaving to return home and work at the Cities Service Refinery. He co-owned Ellender's Bait and Grocery in Carlyss with his wife for 15 years before retiring. He loved to hunt and fish, which he started doing from a very early age, continuing throughout his lifetime, sharing his knowledge with his two sons.
Herman is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Barbara Ellender, his father, Herman I. Ellender Sr., and his brother, Larry Ellender.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Betty Jean Ellender, his sons, John Ellender and wife Tina Ellender, and Jason Ellender, his granddaughters, Brittany Thibodeaux and Margaux Ellender, two great grandsons, Aiden and Asher Wheatherly, a step grandson, Andrew Butzbach, a step granddaughter, Abigail Butzbach, his brother, Charles Ellender, and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, at 11:30 AM on December 19, 2024, at Big Woods Cemetery. The family will receive guest at Johnson Funeral Home of Sulphur on Thursday, December 19, 2024, from 9 AM until 11 AM.
