Herman O'Connor, Dds

Herman O'Connor, DDS, 88, of Lake Charles died surrounded by his family at 1:55 AM on Thursday, June 14, 2012 in his daughter's residence.

Dr. O'Connor was born April 4, 1924 in Ville Platte, LA. He was a graduate of Opelousas High School, SLI (South Louisiana Institute) and Loyola University, where he graduated with his degree in dentistry. He served his country in the U.S. Navy and practiced dentistry in Lake Charles until his retirement in 1997. He was a member of the American Dental Association and Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. He was an avid fisherman and was devoted to his daughters and grandchildren.

Those left to cherish his memory are three daughters and their husbands, Carolyn Babineaux and Carl of Lake Charles, Debbie Darscheid and Tom of Chesterfield, MI, and Karen Howell and Jerry of Houston, TX; a brother, James O'Connor of Gretna, LA; a sister, Joyce White of Austin, TX; seven grandchildren, Carl Eric Babineaux, Jr., Christopher John Babineaux, Anne-Claire Babineaux, Mary Beth Darscheid, Lisa Darscheid, Connor Howell, and Katie-Anne Howell.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 26 years, Mary Anne Sigur O'Connor; parents, Marshall and Bessie Vidrine O'Connor; and brother, George O'Connor.

His funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 22, 2012 at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. Monsignor James Gaddy will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home on Thursday, June 21, 2012 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a scripture service and rosary at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue at the funeral home on Friday from 8:00 AM to 10:30 AM.
