Herminio "Jay" Cotto, Jr.

November 11, 1955 — August 20, 2024

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our husband and father, Herminio Cotto Jr sun rise November 11, 1955 and sun set on August 20, 2024. He was better known as Jay, or Mr. Jay to most, and a beloved Husband, Father, Son, Brother, Uncle, Friend, Co-worker, and Veteran.

He served our country as a Senior Airman in the US Air Force from 1975-1980 and continued to serve our country as a Jet Engine Power Plant Mechanic, working on projects such as B-52 Stratofortress Strategic Bomber, KC135 Stratotanker Air Refueler, F117 Nighthawk Stealth Fighter, B2 Stealth Bomber, and 707 or E8C Joint Stars surveillance aircraft.

Jay was that person you were happy to be around who shared his love for dance, music, his knowledge of life and his love for his family. He never met a stranger and made a friend everywhere he went. If there was a problem or something was broken, he would fix it and when you thank him, he’d say “That’s what I do.” He was a dedicated, hardworking, and loving husband and father that built a beautiful, comfortable life for his wife and children.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Juanita Rodriguez Cotto, father, Herminio Cotto Sr, and Brother-in-Law, Asdrubal Ruiz.

He is survived by his wife, Maria De Los Angeles Carrion Cotto, his children, Tatiana (Elridge) Clophus Sr, and Herminio Adam Cotto III. He leaves his life legacy with his beloved grandchildren Nevaeh Clophus, Johana Clophus, EJ Clophus or Elridge Jr, Dominic Clophus, Ezekiel Clophus, Gianna Clophus and Elijah Cotto. He was the fourth of seven siblings which include Miguel (Adelina) Cotto, Noemi (Marcellino) Reno, Raquel Cotto, Ruth Ruiz, Ruben (Lisa) Cotto, and Beatrice Cotto.

His funeral service will be held at Johnson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff on Friday, August 23, 2024 at 10 a.m. Rev. Thomas Clophus will officiate. Burial with military honors will take place in the Central Louisiana Veterans Cemetery following the service. Visitation will be held at Johnson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff Thursday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. with a time of eulogies at 6 p.m. Visitation will resume at the funeral home Friday from 9 a.m. until the start of the service.
