Hershel Allen Pettypool

July 12, 1939 — April 8, 2024

Hershel (Shorty) Allen Pettypool Sr.  July 12, 1939 – April 8, 2024

Hershel was a man of many interests; he loved fishing, camping, enjoyed gun collecting and hunting. He was the very definition of an outdoorsman. Shorty loved old western films/television shows and historic frontier themed cinema. He was a private in the Army who held true in life every belief of honoring his country, but most importantly he was a man who held the belief of honoring family. Shorty to many was a man of few words; however, when speaking he made sure it was something worth saying.

Hershel prided himself of being the patriarchy of his family and trying to instill the values he was taught throughout his own life on that of every person he encountered. Hershel was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather/great-grandfather.  He was held with great love and affection by his entire family immediate and extended. A true American family man by every definition.

When not embracing the joys and priorities of his life, Shorty was a patient and loving individual who would simply sit and enjoy the solitude of just existing in peace. Hershel was a God-fearing man with respect and appreciation for life and everything it had to offer the good and the bad, he took it all in stride.

Shorty, nicknamed for his petite stature, was anything but; his character, conviction, sense of self, dedication, and devotion to others and his Lord demanded nothing but respect for this larger-than-life man. He will be deeply missed by all who love him and will never spend a day outside of our prayers, thoughts, hearts and the light of our Lord.

Hershel is survived by his grandchildren, Zachary R Pettypool and Hannah R. Pettypool; and great-grandchildren. (Too many both immediate and distant to name without omitting anyone and hurting feelings.)

Preceding Hershel in death within last 5 years in his immediate family would include:

His wife- Barbara E. Pettypool

His Son- Teddie R. Pettypool

We would like to thank all of Hershel’s family members who have aided in his care and love since the passing of his wife and son when he needed it the most up to his remaining days here on this earth. We can never show how much appreciation we have for the family members that stepped up to give him every comfort in this world, the medical teams and individuals that assisted in his general health and well-being. We would love to especially thank Johnson and Robison Funeral Home for handling majority of the Pettypool family affairs for their final resting wishes; they are a true credit to this community, our family, and their professions.

Cremation has been entrusted to Johnson and Robison Funeral Home.
