Howard M. Sonnier, 66, of Lake Charles, LA, passed away on June 23, 2021 in his residence.
Born December 28, 1954 in Lake Charles, LA, Howard lived a number of years in Baton Rouge, before returning to home to Lake Charles. He worked in the construction industry his entire career and later as a Safety Coordinator. He was a member of St. Theodore Catholic Church, where he played the guitar with the church band. Howard also volunteered many years as a firefighter for Ward #1. Howard was an excellent musician, playing the guitar, harmonica, fiddle, and the accordion. He was with the Cypress Creek Band and later Howard Sonnier and the Highway Lights. He also enjoyed woodworking, and built his casket along with his wife, Debbie. Howard also enjoyed hunting, fishing, taxidermy, and building RC airplanes. He will always be remembered as a strong willed, but very determined man who was full of life and loved people.
Mr. Sonnier is survived by his wife of thirteen years, Debbie Sonnier of Lake Charles; son, Cory Sonnier and wife Lindsey of Houston, TX; step-sons, Randy Thibodeau and wife Victoria of Edgerly, LA and Matthew Thibodeaux and wife Lesleigh of Orange, TX; step-daughter, Brandy Clark of Edgerly, LA; brother, Gary Sonnier and wife Kathy of Lake Charles and David Sonnier and wife Laney of Ragley; sisters, Betty McDaniel of Baton Rouge, Marlene Cook and husband Larry of Baton Rouge, Lauren Sonnier and husband Mark of Arkansas and Jakeitha Sonnier of Maine; six grandchildren, Kyleigh Thibodeaux, Addison Sonnier, Madison Thibodeaux, Edward Thibodeaux, Sam Thibodeaux, and Adeline Sonnier; and his beloved dog, Paco.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Genevieve and Eddie Joseph Sonnier; brothers, John Willie Sonnier and Randall Sonnier; and brother-in-law, James “Fip” McDaniel.
His funeral service will be at 4:00 PM on Sunday, June 27, 2021 at Johnson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff. His cremation was entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Sunday from 12:00 PM until the start of the service.
