Huey F. “Joe” Sexton, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and dedicated public servant, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, and cherished memories. Born in 1934, Joe’s life was marked by an unwavering commitment to his family, his country, and his community.
Joe proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, a testament to his lifelong dedication to duty and honor. Following his service, Joe embarked on a remarkable 55-year career in law enforcement, where he exemplified integrity, courage, and compassion. His steadfast commitment to justice and the safety of his community earned him the respect and admiration of all who knew him. He joined the Lake Charles Police Department in 1958 and rose through the ranks retiring as Interim Chief. Following his retirement, he began a thirty-year career with the Calcasieu Parish Sherriff’s Office.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Joe found great joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid fisherman, often finding solace and happiness by the water’s edge. His greatest pride, however, was his family, especially his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy and purpose to his life.
Joe is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Barbara Granger Sexton whose partnership and love were constants throughout his life. He is also survived by his two sons and their wives, Darren and Rhonda, and Joey, who carry forward his values and the lessons he imparted. Joe’s cherished grandchildren and their spouses, Alex and Lauren, Jordan and Elyse, Clinton and Amber, Aaron and Hailey, Miranda and Jeremy, and Ashleigh and Jamie, will forever remember him as a loving and inspirational figure in their lives. Additionally, Joe had 12 great-grandchildren whom he absolutely adored, each bringing further joy to his life.
