Huey Pierce Nelson, 84, of New Orleans, LA passed away Tuesday, December 03, 2013 in a New Orleans Assisted Living facility. Mr. Nelson was born in Lake Charles, lived over fifty years in Sulphur, LA and has lived the past three years in New Orleans. He was a graduate of Landry High School and served the United States Marine Corps in Korea. Mr. Nelson worked his younger years as an Iron Worker with Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Iron Workers Local Union No. 623. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #424 of Sulphur and Lake Charles Scottish Rite of Lake Charles. He was a former member of Wesley Methodist Church, Henning Memorial United Methodist Church and First Methodist Church. He then began his career as a Project Manager in the construction industry. Mr. Nelson worked throughout the United States and other Countries as Project Manager, relocating his family with him to continue his journey. He was an admirable man of his industry, having an overwhelming influence in countless young men in most every project he led, never expecting anything of them that he was not willing to do himself. He took great pride in his family with undying love for his wife, children, grandchildren and family. Mr. Nelson will be remembered as a man of integrity, who loved life, loved those in his life with his whole heart and had a soft spot for his love of dogs. He leaves to honor his memory, two daughters, Cynthia Nelson Schupp of New Orleans and Barnetta Pofahl of Wagoner, OK; son, Huey Witt Nelson of Sulphur; brother, Walter Oscar Nelson of Enis, LA ; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by loving wife of fifty years, Freda Louise Witt Nelson; his parents, Emil and Hazel Hughes Nelson; two brothers, Emil Nelson, Jr. and William Ernest Nelson and an infant grandchild. Funeral services will be at 1:00PM Friday, December 06, 2013 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Masonic Services will begin at 12:45PM. Reverend Rachel McConnell-Switzer will officiate. Interment will follow in Orange Grove Cemetery. Visitation Friday will be from 10:30 AM until the time of service in the funeral home.
