Hwa Ok Perry, 74, passed away on March 15, 2025 at her residence with her children by her side. Born in a small rice-farming community in rural South Korea, she was the second of seven children. As a young girl, she moved to the big city of Seoul, where fate led her to Michael Lynn Perry, an American soldier. Their love was instant, a true love at first sight. Upon moving to America on January 20, 1977 Hwa and Michael married just six days later. She spent the next 23 years with the love of her life and the following 25 years devoted to loving only him.
Hwa was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished “NeNe” to her grandchildren, but everyone knew her as friend. She had a remarkable green thumb, able to bring any plant back to life. She loved gardening and walking, known around her neighborhood for her daily hour-long walks. Hwa was a sensational cook. It was one of her absolute favorite things to do and she loved sharing her meals with family and friends. She always carried herself with elegance and kindness, she never spoke an unkind word about anyone and was instantly loved by everyone that she met. Hwa was quiet and reserved, a very private person. She hardly left home, yet she was still able to make a huge impact on so many people in the Lake Charles community. She had a very special connection with a lot of the medical staff here in Lake Charles. Through many years of seeing doctors and medical teams through her own health struggles she showed deep respect and love for all of those who took care of her. The nurses and doctors showed the same deep love and care for Hwa as well.
She is survived by her children, Michael Perry and Diana Perry Beaugh (Jeremy); her grandchildren, Gage and Josie Beaugh; her siblings, Dongsuk, Chunkok, Seongja, Dong-ro, Sunnam, and Donngyo; her dearest friends, Chom Esser, Chong, Park, Suk, and Ok Sim; and her nurse practitioner and second daughter at heart, Anna Landry.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 48 years Michael Lynn Perry, and her parents Younghae Jeong, and Lee Young-soon
