Ida S. Ford

August 24, 1930 — November 15, 2024

Ida Savant Ford, a beloved member of the Lake Charles community, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2024, at the age of 94. Born on August 24, 1930, in Kinder, Louisiana, Ida was the daughter of Armand and Ursula (Lormand) Savant.

A 1947 graduate of Kinder High School, Ida began a lifelong career with the State of Louisiana, working in various departments, including the Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) and the Group Health Insurance Program. Over her 34 years of dedicated service, she was known for her attention to detail and her compassionate approach to helping others.

In 1968, Ida met the love of her life, Floyd H. Ford Jr. Together, they shared 41 joyful years of marriage, creating a life filled with love and laughter until Floyd's passing in 2009.

Ida was a devout Catholic and a longtime member of St. Margaret Catholic Church in Lake Charles. Her faith was central to her life, and she actively participated in the Catholic Daughters, where she was honored as Daughter of the Year in 2014. She was also a member of the Altar Society and the "Come Lord Jesus" program, finding purpose and fellowship in her faith community.

Known for her kind and giving spirit, Ida loved to help others. Whether it was lending a hand to neighbors or assisting colleagues with their needs. Her generosity extended to her family and friends, and she expressed her love through her immaculate home, cooking, and care for others.

Although she had no children of her own, Ida poured her motherly love into the lives of her many nieces and nephews, as well as her cherished cats, Patti-cake and Theophile.

Ida is survived by her nephews Johnny (Skippy) Savant(Brenda) and Jimmy Augustine (Margart); her niece Mary Jane Andrus (Stuart); and her great-great nephews and nieces Tony Fontenot, Kerry Fontenot, Rhonda Fontenot Sherman, Dana Fontenot Homer, Kim Fontenot, Laine Fontenot, Jill Fontenot Holman, Ginger Fontenot McDaniel, Paul Oliver, Mylinda Ardoin, Rebecca Young, Tammy Crain, Rusty Savant, Douglas Savant, and Stevens Savant. She also leaves behind a very special cousin, Charlie Anderson.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Armand and Ursula Savant; her siblings Wasey Savant, Leslie Savant Gregory, Missie Augustine, Rodney Savant, and Cally Savant; and her beloved husband, Floyd H. Ford Jr.

Ida's strong spirit, loving heart, and unwavering kindness will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
