Ida Meche

Ida Meche, 88, of Lake Charles, LA died Wednesday, March 23, 2016 in a local hospital.

Ida was born on February 17, 1928 in Mamou, LA to Drew and Elodia Soileau. Ida was a graduate of McNeese State University with a degree in education. She started as a first grade teacher at Cherry Street Elementary and last worked at Fairview Elementary, when she retired from the Calcasieu Parish School Board. Ida enjoyed yard work and growing flowers. Her greatest enjoyment was her children and grandchildren.

Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, Ernest J. Meche Sr.; three children, Gerald Meche, Ernest J. Meche Jr, and Glenda Truett Meche; ten grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; and one great great grandson.

She is preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter, Sandra Gayle Meche; two grandchildren, Josey Meche and Matthew Meche; one great grandson, Corey Wix; and two brothers, Laddie Soileau and Aurelian “Beb” Matt.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at St. Margaret Catholic Church. Visitation will begin at 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM Monday, March 28, 2016 with a rosary at 6:00 PM at Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will resume at 8:00 AM until 9:30 AM Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at Johnson Funeral Home. Father Jay Alexius will officiate services. Burial will be at Consolata Cemetery.
