Ira Joseph Fontenot, 87, of Lake Charles, died Saturday November 8, 2014 at his residence after an extended illness. Mr. Fontenot was a native of Eunice, a graduate of Mamou High School, and a longtime resident of the Lake Charles area. He was retired from Berry Brothers and Lake Auto Parts, owned and operated Goodyear Tire & Appliance in Sulphur and worked for Consolata Cemetery for many years. He honorably served our country in the United States Navy during World War II. Mr. Fontenot was also a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, St. Vincent De Paul Society, Boy Scouts of America leader, and assisted with Little League Baseball. Preceding him in death are his parents, Pierre and Inez LeDoux Fontenot, Sr.; sister, Jeanette Molitor and brother, Lester Fontenot. Those left to honor and cherish his memories are his beloved wife of 67 years, Lou Ella Fontenot; daughter, Sandy Rowe and Husband Harold, Houston, TX; sons, Carl Fontenot, Ragley, Donald Fontenot and wife Cheryl, Lake Charles, Paul Fontenot, Lake Charles and brother, Pierre Fontenot, Jr., Lake Charles; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with a Rosary to be recited at 6:00 PM, on Monday November 10, 2014 and from 10:00 AM until 12:30 PM on Tuesday. A Funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. Monsignor James Gaddy will officiate. Burial, with full military honors, will follow at Consolota Cemetery.
