Irene Mayer-Hoffpauir

Mrs. Hoffpauir passed away, Saturday, September 22, 2012 in a local care facility in Lake Charles.

Irene Marie Bonnet Mayer Hoffpauir was born in Lafayette, Louisiana on April 16, 1920 to Leo and Lifdie (Prejean) Bonnet. She graduated from Lafayette High School in 1938. For almost forty years she lived in Crowley where she and her first husband, Henry Roos Mayer, raised their daughter Carolyn Rosa Mayer.

She worked for South Central Bell telephone in Crowley as an operator and then as a supervisor for more than thirty years. When the Crowley office closed, she transferred to Lake Charles to be near her daughter Carolyn and her family. In retirement, she traveled, gardened, was active at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church where she was a member for thirty-three years, was a member of Catholic Daughters of America, participated and served as President of the Calcasieu Extension Homemakers Club, and enjoyed time with her family. She loved to sew, embroider, bake, and was a gracious hostess, frequently cooking delicious meals for friends and family. She was a generous and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Henry Roos Mayer, their daughter Carolyn Mayer Zebley, and her four siblings Russell Bonnet, Nora Bonnet Williams, John Bonnet, and Alfred Bonnet. She is survived by her second husband Paul E. Hoffpauir, his children Anna Marie Crawford and Kermit Hoffpauir. She will be greatly missed by her son-in-law Charles Zebley and his wife Mary, her three granddaughters, Kathleen Zebley Liulevicius and her husband Vejas G. Liulevicius, Angele Zebley Gallers and her husband David Gallers, Julie Ann Zebley, and nieces and nephews. She delighted in her three great-grandchildren Paul Liulevicius, Helen Liulevicius, and Claire Gallers who adored their beloved Gangan.

The family wants to thank especially the ladies who helped care for her in the last two years: Karen Goodley, Del Malborough, Sharon Williams, Vicki Broussard, Brigitte Payne ,Dee Dee Chenier, and Linda Harris. The family also thanks the staff at the Guardian and at Amedisys Hospice for their care.

Visitation will be from 5 PM until 8 PM Monday, Sept. 24, with a rosary at 6 PM. Visitation will continue on Tuesday from 8 AM until 9:30 AM in the funeral home. Her Funeral Mass will be at 10 AM Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church. Reverend Alan Trouille will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Mausoleum in Crowley, LA under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.
