Irvin Broussard, 86 passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, September 8, 2019
while in the wonderful company of his loving family.
Born on October 8, 1932 into a small farming family in Lake Arthur, LA, Irvin spent his
early formative years enjoying the hard farm work and good times found deep in the
heart of Louisiana Cajun country. At the young age of 20, Irvin married his lifetime
sweetheart, Dorothy “Dot” Klein Broussard, who remained his beautiful wife for over 66
years. Irvin and Dot were blessed with three healthy and wonderful children, Janice
(Richard) Mouhot of Moss Bluff, Michael (Bonnie) Broussard of Pensacola, FL, and
Gerald (Teri) Broussard of Lake Charles. Irvin and Dot were blessed even more with 8
absolutely perfect grandchildren Stephanie (Corey) Judice of Westlake, Monica (Lee)
Shearin of Bridge City, TX, Jessica (Israel) Lowery of Lake Charles, Taylor Broussard of
Lake Charles, Morgan (Delaney) Broussard, Jacob (Brittany) Broussard of Las Vegas,
NV, Daniel Broussard of Las Vegas, NV, Kristen Broussard of Virginia Beach, VA. Even more blessings were added to Irvin
and Dot’s life by their amazingly super perfect six great-grandchildren Hannah Shearin,
Tyler Shearin, Griffin Lowery, Olivia Lowery, Cecilia Lowery, and Emmett Lowery.
Irvin’s love of his family was only topped by his family’s love for him and something he
greatly cherished and appreciated.
After moving to the great metropolis of Lake Charles, La in 1955, Irvin spent the next 9
years as a “milkman” for Borden’s Dairy before a life changing opportunity and mentor
charted a new course for him. In 1966, Msgr. Irving A DeBlanc was in the beginnings of
creating his vision of a new modern Catholic mausoleum and cemetery and offered the
34 year old Irvin the manager’s position at Consolata. Irvin would spend the next 30
years of his life at Consolata, helping to build Msgr. DeBlanc’s dream and consoling so
many families with his natural heartfelt sympathy and spiritual grace.
Irvin was also an avid outdoorsman and spent many hours of his life hunting, fishing,
crawfishing and shrimping in Louisiana’s great natural rivers, lakes and rice fields. Irvin
kept a fishing camp at Toledo Bend, LA for over 20 years hosting an annual family
Fourth of July celebration. Fresh fish, oysters, shrimp and crawfish were par for the
course but his specialty was definitely BBQ! Numerous family reunions, large family get
togethers, holidays and vacations were catered by the “pit master” Irvin, grilling up
enough food to feed everyone with even more to take home.
Finally, but more important than anything, Irvin was a “good and faithful” servant to our
Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. A lifelong devotion and practice to his Catholic faith saw
Irvin deepen his faith through attendance at numerous retreats at Grand Coteau and
completion of a Cursillo retreat. A former Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus,
Irvin’s daily rosary and prayers with Dot were felt and appreciated by everyone on their
prayer list.
He was preceded in death by his parents Henry (Eusaide) Broussard; and sisters, Jean
(Harry) Hymel of Lake Charles, LA, Aline (John) Hymel of Lake Charles, LA and Delsie
Marie Broussard of Lake Arthur, LA. Irvin is survived by his brother, Dennis (Cheryl)
Broussard of Lafayette, LA.
