J.D. “Jerry” Clifton went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 27, 2017. A memorial service will be held to celebrate his life on Tuesday, May 30, 6:00 p.m. at Maplewood First Baptist Church in Sulphur. Beginning at 5:00 p.m. the family will receive friends.
J.D. was born to Mora and W.E. Clifton on October 17, 1941 in Pioneer Louisiana. He attended Westlake High School, class of 1959. J.D joined the United States Army in the summer of 1959 and served our Country for 22 years, including three tours in Vietnam. A recipient of the Purple Heart and numerous accommodations, he retired from the Army in 1981, as a Master Sergeant. In a second career, J.D. worked for area industry as a machinist, including 18 years with Citgo. He and his wife were members of Maplewood First Baptist Church for 35 years where they participated in activities and volunteer service with a caring church family and many close friends.
He leaves behind a loving wife of 54 years, Ute Maria Clifton; two daughters, Nancy Clifton Tower and husband Ron, and Sandra Clifton Hoffecker and husband C.T.; four grandchildren, Natascha Tower Kraemer and husband Mykel, Zackary Cox, Alexis Cox, Natalie Tower and David Tower; and two great grandchildren, Luke and Julia Kraemer.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be considered to one of J.D.’s three favorite charities: Maplewood First Baptist Church, Operation Christmas Child or Smile Train.
