J.D. Stephenson, 90, of Lake Charles died at 7:31 PM on Friday, November 8, 2013 in a local hospital. Mr. Stephenson was born on November 18, 1922 in Merryville, LA and moved to Lake Charles in 1947 when he began his career with PPG. He retired from PPG in 1983 after more than 36 years of service. Prior to his career, he served in the Civilian Conservation Corp Company #4414 from 1940-1941. He then served his country in the U.S. Navy. He was able to enjoy his retirement doing things he enjoyed. Mr. Stephenson was remarkable at woodworking and had a passion for fishing and gardening. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 62 years, Jackie Stephenson; three children, Brenda Sperandeo and husband Mike, Sr. of Lake Charles, Greg Stephenson of Dallas, TX, and Karen McCall and husband Barry of Lake Charles; seven grandchildren, Michael Wayne Sperandeo, Jr. and wife Sarah, Tara Ellis and husband Ryan, Meghan Sperandeo, Ashli Nolan and husband Kordell, Kimberly McCall, and Kelsey and Jill Stephenson; five great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, November 12, 2013 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Francis LaRocque will officiate. Burial will follow in Prien Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Monday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and will continue on Tuesday from 8:00 AM until the start of the funeral services.
