James Howard Trotter, Jr., a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away at the age of 76 on Tuesday, April 18, 2023. Born on June 25, 1946, in Lake Charles, Louisiana, Howard was the cherished son of James H., Sr. and Virginia Trotter.
A proud Lake Charles native, Howard attended Lake Charles High School and continued his education at McNeese State University. He was a dedicated member of the National Rifle Association and passionately pursued shooting sports throughout his life.
Howard's entrepreneurial spirit and love for music led him to establish Sylvan Sound Service, which later evolved into Sylvan Special Systems under his leadership as president. His generosity and compassion for animals were evident in his founding of the Hobo Hotel, a safe haven for abandoned cats.
In his free time, Howard enjoyed spending time on the river, boating, and caring for his cherished feline companions. His zest for life and love for his family were ever-present in his actions and words.
Howard is survived by his loving daughter, Stacy Lynn Long, his two precious grandchildren, Laykyn Nicole Long of Florida and Landon James Pitzer of Lake Charles, LA, and his three great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, James H., Sr. and Virginia Trotter.
A Memorial Service in honor of Howard's life will be held at 5:00 PM on Thursday, April 20, 2023, at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Friends and family are invited to visitation at the funeral home on Thursday from 3:00 PM until the commencement of the service at 5:00 PM. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles.
