Jack Richard Aumiller, affectionately known as “Big Jack” or “Pop Pop,” departed this world for eternal life on Friday, November 29, 2024, surrounded by his beloved children and grandchildren at Memorial Hospital.
Jack was born on February 6, 1934, to Benjamin Franklin and Nora Inez Aumiller of Baton Rouge, LA. He called Lake Charles home for 76 years.
Jack graduated from Lake Charles High School in 1953, where he was a standout basketball player. He continued his basketball career at McNeese State University before embarking on a successful professional journey. Jack worked for Texaco for 20 years before founding Aumiller’s Petroleum Equipment in 1972, a business he owned and operated until 2006. He was an active leader in his industry, serving on the boards of the Petroleum Equipment Institute (PEI) and the Louisiana Oil Marketers Association (LOMA).
Beyond his career, Jack was a man of many passions and accomplishments. He served on the boards of the Monaco Owners Club and the Family Motor Coach Association (FMCA). A proud supporter of McNeese athletics, he was an enthusiastic member of the McNeese Cowboy Club. He especially loved tailgating with family and friends. Jack and his wife JoAnn were honored as Duke and Duchess of Krewe de la Noblesse, reflecting their love for life and community involvement. Jack’s greatest joy was RVing and taking long road trips to the mountains of Colorado, the lights of Vegas, the scenic beauty of Canada, or anywhere his caravan of RV friends and RV rallies would take him. This is where he found peace, adventure, and lifelong friendships.
Jack is survived by his wife, JoAnn. She is the love of his life, sharing 67 years of marriage. You rarely saw Jack without JoAnn. They shared a beautiful journey filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Together, they raised a family rooted in faith and love.
Jack is also survived by his four devoted children: Brigitte Johnson (JJ), Gretchen Neville, Jack Richard Aumiller II (Michelle), and Courtney Doyle (Scott). He was the proud “Pop Pop” to his grandchildren: Alysia Davis (Chad), Jamie and Jeremy Johnson, Ivy Neville, Megan, and Jack Richard Aumiller III (Jackson), and Christian Doyle (Masha), John Scott, Chandler, Carrington, Harrison, and Hamilton Doyle. His legacy also lives on in his seventeen great-grandchildren, who brought him immense pride and happiness.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, all eight of his siblings, and several dear friends who were like family to him.
His life was a testament to faith, family, and adventure. Jack will be remembered for his larger-than-life personality, his role as a great husband, father, and Pop Pop, and the countless memories he created with those he held dear.
