Jack David Shortt, 77, of Lake Charles, LA died at 8:00 PM on Tuesday, August 7, 2012 in a local hospital.
Mr. Shortt was born November 11, 1934 in West Virginia, attended Lake Charles High School and was raised in the Baptist faith. He worked for ten years at KPLC as a camera operator, was a bookkeeper for V.J. Vending, and a delivery driver for Lee Dee Cigar Company. He retired in 1999 from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office where he served as a deputy sheriff. He was an avid gun collector and will be remembered for his joking character and his charisma. He loved the Andy Griffith Show and watched faithfully.
He is survived by his children, Jackie Melancon and husband Craig Broussard of Lafayette, Kim Monk and husband Tim of Moss Bluff, Chad Shortt and wife Cindy of Moss Bluff, Paul Shortt and wife Shellie of Lake Charles, Vane' Geter and Jeff Arnold, both of Colorado; seventeen grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dixie Fletcher Day and Doug Day.
His memorial service will be at 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 11, 2012 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the start of the service.
