Jack Parks, a life long resident of Lake Charles, passed away September 18, 2013 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Jack was born December 8, 1937 and is survived by his wife and constant companion of 57 years, Glenda Hunter Parks. Jack is also survived by two sons; Jackie, and his wife Sandra of Reeves; Charles, and his wife Connie of Moss Bluff; four grandchildren; Cory, Ashley, Chad and Casey and two great grandchildren, Gavin and Ayden. Jack had a lifelong love of motorcycle riding that began at eight years old with his first Cushman scooter. His love continued when he started riding Harleys and in 1955, at the age of 16, attended the Harley Davidson factory school then worked as a mechanic at the local dealership. Jack was always known to have some of the fastest Harleys in the area. Jack was a successful motorcycle racer and had a trophy collection to prove it. After starting a family, the motorcycle bug spread to his sons and most of his spare time was spent riding dirt bikes with them. Motorcycles were the glue that kept his family close. He continued to ride with his family until his passing. Jack was also known as a great custom gunsmith. With a gift of understanding anything mechanical, he was self taught in the art of tuning just about any quality handgun. Jack's custom handguns are a cherished part of many gun collections. A perfectionist by nature, Jack put everything into any gun he built and to hold some of his work is to touch a part of his spirit. He was a proud member of the NRA. Jack and Glenda owned and operated their own dog grooming business for 47 years. Jack was a man of his word, a great husband, father, and friend. Jack was met at the gates of Heaven by his father, Kenneth Parks; his mother Fern; brother, Bill; sister, Dorothy and countless friends who passed before him. There would also have been a beautiful yellow lab named Bushwack. Jack's family would like to extend their sincere thanks for the many acts of kindness and prayer provided during this difficult time. If a man's wealth is measured by the number of great friends in his life, Jack would have been considered a very rich man. Visitation will be from 3 P.M. Friday, September 20, 2013 at Johnsons Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Saturday September 21, 2013 at 11 A.M. Pastor Ronnie Estes will officiate. Burial will take place at the Rosepine Cemetery at 2 P.M.
