Jackie Stephenson

Jackie Doris Willis Stephenson, 88, of Lake Charles, LA, died at 8:00 AM on Sunday, December 13, 2020 in her residence. 

Mrs. Stephenson was born March 20, 1932 in Prairie Hill, TX and has lived in Lake Charles for over seventy years.  She was a charter member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, where she was very active in the church.  She was a Sunday School teacher, sang in the choir, volunteered for many years with Vacation Bible School and was always helping at church functions in the kitchen, or wherever she could be of service.  Mrs. Stephenson enjoyed bowling and was a part of the Best of the Worst Bowling League.  She also enjoyed reading and needlepoint and will be remembered for her wonderful cooking.  Her true legacy in life was the love she left behind for her family.

Mrs. Stephenson is survived by her children, Brenda Sperandeo and husband Mike of Lake Charles, Greg Stephenson of Dallas, TX, and Karen McCall of Lake Charles; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and her best friend, Minnie Mae Tilley.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James David “J.D.” Stephenson; mother, Bertha Mysell; and brothers, Pete Willis, Claude Thompson, and Elton Thompson.

Her funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at University Baptist Church, under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.  Dr. Andrew Buckley will officiate.  Burial will follow in Prien Memorial Park.  Visitation will be at the church on Wednesday from 11:00 AM until the start of the service.
