Jacob Ervin Ecker

August 23, 1937 — February 21, 2023

Jacob Ervin Ecker, 85, of Covington died peacefully Tuesday, February 21, 2023 following a brief illness in a Covington, Louisiana hospital.

Jacob was born in Harrah, Oklahoma, where he was raised, and was a graduate of Harrah High School, and Oklahoma University.  He retired from his work as a chemical engineer at Olin Corporation for over 40 years, and as a Process Technology teacher at Sowela Technical Institute.  He taught Hebrew and volunteered at Temple Sinai in Lake Charles.  Jacob was affectionately known to those who knew him after college as “Jake” and “Jakie” to family, childhood friends and his bride, Nolia.

Jacob was fiercely devoted to his family; he loved to travel and go camping.  He loved to take long, scenic drives, and to view beauty in nature.  A voracious reader, Jacob’s many hobbies included learning languages, videography, ham radio, computers, (bad) singing, and puns.  Jacob will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

He leaves to honor his memory, his wife of over four years, Nolia Marie Guillot Ecker, his children John Jacob (Jay) Ecker and wife Laura of Lake Charles, Stephanie Lynn (Ecker) Marrero and husband Jose of Bertram, Texas, and Joseph Earl Ecker and fiancée Tina Wing, of Sulphur; by his honorary daughter, Susan Rae Parker Weaver and husband Paul of Westlake; sister, Mary Jane Wright and husband Kenneth of Midwest City, Oklahoma; two brothers, Johnie Bill Ecker and wife Rebecca of Muskogee, Oklahoma, James David Ecker and wife Linda of Bentonville, Arkansas; eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Ervin Ecker and Bessie Faulk Ecker, his first wife and mother of his children, Carolyn Bess (Betsy) McReynolds Ecker, his brother, Joe Arthur Ecker, and his great-grandson, Austin Dwayne Wareham.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Sunday, March 05, 2023 at Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles.  Visitation Sunday will be from 1:00 PM until the time of service in the funeral home. Rabbi Barry Weinstein will officiate. Interment services will follow at Hebrew Rest of Graceland Cemetery with Shiva rituals following at the family home.

Memorial donations may be made to the Temple Sinai, 713 Hodges St, Lake Charles, LA 70601 or templesinai.info/donate.
