James Arthur Leon Schulz, Sr.

James "Jim" Arthur Leon Schulz, Sr., 73, of Lake Charles, LA died at 10:08 PM on Monday, June 16, 2014 in a local hospital. Mr. Schulz was born November 26, 1940 in Brooklyn, NY and served his country in the Green Berets Power group of the U.S. Army. He sold insurance for thirty-eight years with Combine Insurance, Capital American, Family heritage, Conseco and Washington Mutual Life. He received many awards, including Salesman of the Year numerous times and he helped write the cancer policy. Jim is survived by his wife of twenty-one years, Sandra Wescott Schulz; children, Karen (Derek) Lambert of Weaverville, NC, James (Gina) Schulz, Jr. from Greenville, SC, and Shari (Alvin) David of Lake Charles; grandchildren, Alicia White of Livingston, TN, Haley Lambert of Weaverville, NC, Sarah Bowers of Dallas, TX, Jimmy and Jamison Schulz of Greenville, SC, Josh Bowers of Dallas, TX, Kristina Johnston of Tipton, IA, Rachel Key of Lake Charles, and Ross Key, III of Lake Charles; great-grandchildren, Jack White of Livingston, TN and Brody Johnston of Tipton, IA; brothers, Jack (Linda) Schulz of Washington, NC, and Robert (Carolyn) Schulz of Queensbury, NY; and sister, Anita Furtado of Ft. Pierce, FL. He was preceded in death by his daughters, Sherrie Schulz and Patricia Nickels; step-son, Barney S. Wescott, IV; and the mother of his children, Betty Schulz. His funeral service will be at 2:00 PM on Friday, June 20, 2014 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Jim Vanover will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday from 10:00 AM until the start of service. The family would like to express a special word of thanks to Dr. Ben Thompson and the ICU nurses at Christus St. Patrick Hospital for the excellent care given.
