James B. (Jim) Plaisance passed away Saturday, September 17, 2011. He was born in Mermentau, LA on July 29, 1932 to James A. and Viola Plaisance. At an early age he moved to Lake Charles and graduated from LaGrange High School. He served in the US Navy during the Korean War and was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. A member of IBEW #861 for fifty plus years and a member of VFW Post #2130. For several years Jim was a local businessman.
Survived by his wonderful and loving wife Donna Ryan Plaisance of almost thirty years; two sisters, Peggy LaRocque and husband Rev. Francis LaRocque of Lake Charles, Brenda Messina of Jacksonville, TX; three children, Carol and husband Bobby Snider of Lake Charles, Cathy and husband Bill Clark of Henderson, and Suzanne Monticello of Lake Charles; three stepchildren, Sherman Smith of Robertsville, MO, Julie Smith Basden of Lake Charles, Timothy Smith and wife Deborah of Grand Blanc, MI; seven grandchildren, Hope Clark, Robby Snider, Scott Snider, Jacob Snider, Rebecca Clark, James Clark, Janice Monticello; step grandchildren, Aaron Smith, Sarah Smith, Caroline Smith, Logan Basden, Sydney Basden, Brenden Basden and several great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents James A. and Viola Plaisance and his brother Clyde David Plaisance.
Funeral services will be conducted at Johnson Funeral Home Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at 2PM. Rev. Francis LaRocque, pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow in Prien Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will begin Monday from 4PM-9PM and will continue Tuesday from 8AM until time of service.
Donations may be given to La. Baptist Children's Home or Friend Ships Port Mercy.
