James Blain Festervand

January 18, 1940 — April 5, 2023

If the Lord delights in a man’s way, he makes his steps firm. (Psalm 37:23)

On April 5, 2023, beloved husband and father James Blain Festervand was called home to be with the Lord.

James was born in McLeod, Texas on January 18, 1940, to Curtis Franklin Festervand and Trudice Neal Hayes Festervand. After graduating from New Iberia High School, he attended Abilene Christian College and Nicholls State University. He worked for Citgo Petroleum and retired after more than 30 years of service.

In 1961, James met Linda Helen Acosta whom he married in 1962. They welcomed daughter Jamie Lynn six years later.

James’s firm faith in God made him a strong, kind, loving, and supportive husband and father. He doted on his wife and daughter. He never met a stranger and treated everyone with respect and kindness. He not only lived by God’s Christian values, he took God’s instructions seriously and modeled his faith in the way he lived. His generosity, good nature, and quick wits endeared him to everyone who knew him. He was truly one of the best men in the world and will be dearly missed.

James is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Linda; daughter Jamie, who thought he was perfect; his beloved rescue pets, pooch Weezer and cats EO, Brudder, and Lucy; brother, Doris “Buddy” Festervand; sisters, Shirley Ann Box, and Rhonda Kay Saunier (Jim); and many nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces. He also counts as part of his “chosen” family Suzan Kay Levitz, Tula Black, and Brant Smith (Amanda).

He is preceded in death by his parents Curtis and Trudice, and his cherished rescue dog Sammie.

A small graveside service will be held on Monday, April 10, 2023, at 11:00 AM, at Mimosa Pines Cemetery in Sulphur, La., to celebrate James’s life.
