James C. "Jim" Haynes

James C. “Jim” Haynes, 81, of Lake Charles passed away at 7:48 AM on Monday, April 12, 2021 in his residence.  

Mr. Haynes was born on November 16, 1939 in Beaumont, TX to James P. Haynes and Nona Ferguson Haynes and was raised in Leonard, TX where he was a graduate of Leonard High School.  He then received a degree in business and history from East Texas State University.  During his college years he worked nights for LTV Electrosystems which transferred him to Greenville, SC in 1966.  Mr. Haynes later moved to Spartanburg, SC and became the Director of the Model Cities Program.  He moved back to Greenville, SC when he became the Executive Director of the Greenville County Alcohol and Drug Abuse Program.  In 1982, he and his wife moved to Lake Charles to take over the family beauty school, Demmon’s School of Beauty, until retiring in 2014.  He served as President of Louisiana Association of Cosmetology Schools for four years.

He was a fan and supporter of the McNeese Cowboys and also sponsored the Parapokes.  Mr. Haynes often enjoyed fishing and bird watching in his back yard amongst his bird feeders. 

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Donna Jane Childress Haynes of Lake Charles; sons, James P. Haynes (Theresa) of Simpsonville, SC and Steven Craig Haynes (Charity) of Baytown, TX; sisters, Lindy Ruff (William) of Plano, TX and Patricia Haynes Lester of Westlake; grandchildren, Marla Fincher (Craig) of Knoxville, TN, Jacquelyn Haynes of Greenville, SC, and Christian Taylor Haynes (Yvette) of Baytown, TX; and a great granddaughter, Gracie Fincher.

He was preceded in death by his parents and stepmother (Tiny.)

A visitation will begin on Thursday, April 15, 2021 at Lake City Baptist Church from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.  A funeral service and burial will be in Leonard, TX under the direction of Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home.
