James Carol Mathis

James Jim Carol Mathis, 70, of Lake Charles passed away on Saturday, January 5, 2013 in a local hospital.


Mr. Mathis was born on December 2, 1942 in Mansfield, LA. He graduated from Louisiana Tech in Ruston, LA in January of 1966 with a BS in Chemical Engineering. Mr. Mathis worked for 41 years at Firestone Polymers in Lake Charles holding several titles including, Area Engineer, Chief Process Engineer, Environmental Engineer, and Quality Manager before retiring as the Factory Manager. He worked at the Orange, TX plant for three years as Quality Manager. Mr. Mathis was a Registered Professional Chemical Engineer in Louisiana.


He was active in Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, was a Lake Charles Symphony Board Member and Past President of the Symphony, and was a Board member of the Children's Museum. Mr. Mathis was also President of Firestone Polymers Retiree's Club.


Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Lynn Ellen Price and husband Keith of Shreveport, LA and David James Mathis and wife Stacie of Lake Charles; and grandchildren, Emily Marien, Ryan Price, Brittany Price, and Samantha Mathis.


He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Janice Richard Mathis and his parents, Walter Clark Mathis and Margie Robinson Mathis.


A funeral mass will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. Monsignor James Gaddy will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin on Monday from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a rosary being recited at 6:30 PM. Visitation will continue in the funeral home on Tuesday from 8:00 AM until 1:45 PM.
